WORKSHOP / THE AWAKENING OF WATER
2022

As part of a fictional design workshop, I worked in a group with classmates on the theme of water, a resource that will probably run out in the future.

Today, there are great inequalities  between different populations about the accessibility of water. The Awakening of Water exhibition questions the role of design in through currentissues and futuristic.

Ruisselle and Buée, two projects on two distinct timelines question our use of water on a daily basis by addressing a General public. How can he be mobilized to recover this precious resource daily ? The questioned design here ou relationship to the body, to water and its accessibility.

Ruisselle

The project Ruisselle questions our daily involvement in the water problem. As we know, water is not an infinite resource. It has its limits and is becoming increasingly scarce. Some of us have limited access to it and can suffer. Both in terms of hydration and hygiene.

How can we involve each of us in small steps at this time ?

Ruisselle is an answer to all these existential questions nowadays. It has turned a disturbing and uncontrollable element into a major asset.

Ruisselle, a rain cape, protects us from humidity while collecting this rare commodity. By capillary action, thanks to the subtly sewn fabric, it manages to collect rainwater in bottles hidden under its pockets. It is accompanied by a filter that removes all impurities from the collected water.

In concrete terms, it can be used for a number of purposes, such as washing our hands, brushing our teeth, watering our plants or making tea. On a small scale, it reduces our personal consumption by making us make efforts on everyday actions. Its use is also a good medium to raise awareness by showing the concrete quantities needed for each action.

Water is no longer infinite but concrete and visible.

Buée

Buée travels in time, since it responds to a distant problem of the 2050s. After several years of worrying about our world, we have not been able to fix things together.

How to make people aware of their water consumption ?

Today, it is said that each human ejects an average of 250ml to 500ml of water per day while breathing. Buée then appropriates this natural creation of the body to make it an asset in the face of these problems. Concretely, the project is a mask allowing the condensation of water thanks to our breathing. Buée takes on an absurd aesthetic to show how far we have to go to get access to water. We are invited to wear an extension, like a prosthesis becoming a necessity to live, to recover water, a vital need. Buée allows us to recover the water expelled by our own body. Thanks to it, we can wash our hands and teeth, drink tea or even water our plants.

The future announces an increasingly uncertain and grotesque future. Are we going to get so far as to collect our sweat with a scraper ? Our snot thanks to a reservoir planted in our nose or even glasses to collect our tears ?

Buée is then a manifest ornament pushing us to question our irrational way of consuming water.
